I’m Joliné, a second-year Nursing major from the Dominican Republic. During my freshman year, I was involved in PODER, served as an NU Place Fellow, danced with Kaliente (LatinX Dance Team), and served as a Freshman Representative for the Dominican Student Association. As a first-generation student and immigrant, I understand how intimidating it can be to navigate new spaces and opportunities, which is why I’m so passionate about being a Peer Mentor. I want every student to know that they never have to navigate college alone, that asking for help is never something to be ashamed of, and that with the right support and guidance, they can achieve things they may have once believed were out of reach. Most importantly, I want every student to feel that they belong here, because they do!
